Szechenyi Baths Night

Each night, the three outdoor pools of Szechenyi Spa Baths are open until 10pm – from Monday to Sunday, and in all four seasons. Note: the 15 indoor pools and facilities also close at 10 pm.

Yes, that is right: Szechenyi Bath nights with its open air pools open all year round – spending an unforgettable night in the outdoor pools (there are more than a dozen indoor pools too) is one of the best things to do in Budapest, not only in spring – summer – autumn, but also in winter time.

Late night opening hours mean that you can enjoy fantastic night baths in the open air pools, while enjoying romantic stargazing, or just watching from the warm waves how gently the snow is falling – through the warm steam pillow forming over the thermal pools.

Open Air Pools at Night

There are 3 pools of various sizes and temperatures, so you will not feel either too hot or too cold, no matter what the weather is like. The middle pool is the coolest, which is in fact a sports swimming pool, while the two pools on the wings, are natural hot water thermal pools: one of which is cooled down to 33 degrees Celsius and the other is 38 degrees Celsius.

In the summer season, every Saturday night you can join the world famous hip Szechenyi Bath spa parties, known as Szecska sparties, or the rarer and more spectacular peak summer parties called Water Circus parties, aka Cinetrip sparties.

Sparties are one of a kind all night pool parties in the 3 outdoor pools in Szechenyi Baths with laser shows, DJ and VJ electronic discos. Typically enjoyed by young people in their 20s, 30s and 40s.

Just like the day visits in Szechenyi Baths, the night parties are not nude parties, swimwear is compulsory, and you can bring floating toys, and other pool accessories.

Drinks are available at the parties, which take place every Saturday night in summer months (autumn, winter and spring bath parties are in Lukacs Baths)

  1. Hello,

Today I went to the baths and after I pay for the ticket and got in, I discovered that the main pool was empty. I went down to an office to try to complain why they didn’t say it clearly at the ticket office that the main pool is empty, so as to decide if going anyway or not.

I went downstairs to the management office and waited for the manager. He didn’t care at all about what I was saying and he wasn’t even willing to take it as an advise. He just wanted me to leave him alone and if I didn’t like the situation it was my problem.

With only taking note of what I was saying was enough for me, but he made me feel my opinion as a customer was totally worthless. I don’t think it is clever to treat your customers that way.

I had to apology to the foreign friends I invited and of course was impossible to get a refund from this guy.

Overall a very bad experience since the other big pool was totally crowded and very disappointed for the lack of professionalism of the personal working there.

    Best,
    Luis

  2. Good morning from Australia, There will be 3 couples coming to your beautiful city in August for 1 night and would love to come to the baths. Can you tell me please can we purchase tickets at the gate or do we have to pre purchase before we leave Australia. Also is there a quiet time or is it busy all the time.
    Thanking you Ruth

      Dear Ruth,
it is possible to buy the tickets on the spot at the cashiers, however, we suggest the online bookings, as you can skip the main queue with the Fast Frack tickets.
The bath is usually busy, but most of the guests are arriving around 11 am, so you can arrive around 9 am to enjoy the less-busy hours.
If you are considering to have a massage treatment too, we strongly recommend the online booking, as the massages are usually booked up in advance.
Have a lovely time at Szechenyi Spa Baths!

  3. Hello
I’m a travel agent in Portugal and I have a client that wishes to go Szechenyi Baths, he’s going to travel in the holiday but I can’t understand if you are open, he’s going to travel to Budapeste on the 30th December and will return on the 2nd January. So he wishes to know in the 1st of January will you be open?

  4. A few years ago like about 15, I was at these baths, it was Soviet service from the queue to get the ticket to the baths, we were made to wait for more than an hour to get a ticket into the place.
When we did get in I was shown a locker I put my stuff in the locker it was a locker with a no key so I waited for the next step… no one appeared I went looking for someone and no one was around… in the end I left my stuff in the open locker and did the baths lucky nothing was missing when I got back…
The strange experience left me feeling like I wont come back to Budapest and sure enough it stayed off my radar until this weekend when I came back for dental reasons..
And so….. I’m planning to go again this weekend, saw that I can book online I got a cabin ticket so I have done that, let see if I get lucky this time and get a locker with some sort of key

I read in a Lonely planet guide somewhere that the procedure in some baths (possibly this one too) for the locker thing is that the locker guy locks the locker for you and walks off with the keys, you get then some sort of ticket which you use later to gain access again to the locker…. an oddly complicated process…

So I will report back after my experiences on Saturday Im hoping that things at the Baths have improved in 15 years..

    • Szechenyi Spa Baths

      Dear Mark,
      thank you for contacting us.
Let me kindly inform you that the locker and cabin system has been completely changed.
When you check-in to the Baths, you will receive a waterproof wristband, which will serve as your key for the locker or for the cabin (depending on the ticket type you bought). Therefore no-one else has a key for your locker except you.
On top of that, you can also rent a safety box for your valuables if you wish.

We hope you will have a wonderful experience in Szechenyi Baths.

  5. I read: “Each night, the three outdoor pools of Szechenyi Spa Baths are open until 10pm – from Monday to Sunday, and in all four seasons. Note: the 15 indoor pools and facilities also close at 10 pm.” But on several other pages I read that the thermal pools close at 7 pm.
Could you please clarify opening hours for December?
    Thank you very much.
    Nika
