Szechenyi Baths & Pool: Fun Place, Fine Palace

Szechenyi Baths (built in 1913) is the most visited and much praised attraction in Budapest: relaxing, fun, affordable and, at night, romantic. In addition to the marvelous medicinal natural hot spring waters in the 18 pools, there are 10 saunas / steam cabins, several massage therapies, facial treatments, and more.

Szechenyi Spa Baths is in the biggest green park of Budapest, in the City Park, close to a bunch of Budapest attractions. The  Neo-baroque palace was specifically built for hosting Szechenyi Baths as Hungary has been the country of baths (and Budapest the City of Baths) for many centuries: starting with the Roman settlers who built the first spa baths, through the 16th century Turkish occupiers who built many of the famous and revived Turkish baths in Budapest to the 19-20th century natural medical trends that promote aqua therapies and their deeply beneficial effects. The beautiful building of the spa baths is the design of Gyozo Czigler (Győző Czigler) who started to build Szechenyi Furdo in May 1909.

Come and enjoy your time in Budapest in Szechenyi Spa Baths, in a beautiful, richly decorated palace. The perfect place to chill out, to get to know locals, make business deals and fall in love.

  4. Hi there,

I just wanted to make a complaint from my experience at the baths. The overall experience was nice but there was an incident where i had purchased some food from the bbq area by the outdoor pool for my son. I had purchased the food and instantly my son did not like the look of it and refused to eat it, as it had only just been put on a plate and no one had touched it I asked the man serving if I could give the food back and have a refund. I was instantly laughed at and was asked to go inside to speak to his colleague. I spoke to the colleague and was also greeted with laughter and rudeness. I didn’t expect this at all and thought this was incredibly rude. The colleague then asked to come outside to speak to the man serving the food who I previously spoke to. This was treated as an opportunity to again laugh and be rude towards me for absolutely no reason. The two staff were rude and ignored anything I had to say and took the food. I asked if I could have a refund again as they had took the food and put it back on the bbq. They refused and again laughed. I didn’t want the situation to escalate so I just said fine and walked away. To make the matter worse the food was then sold to the next person so the food was perfectly fine and now had made twice as much on the food even though they would not give me a refund.

This really isn’t about the money but rather how your staff can be so rude and unprofessional when someone has paid good money to go into the baths, paid for food, asked if the food can be returned as there was nothing wrong with it and then greeted with laughter and rudeness. I am shocked that tourists could be treated this way and I wouldn’t be interested in returning to the baths because of this. As tourism is such an important income for the baths I wanted to let you know my experience so that this wouldn’t happen to another tourist who visits as I am sure no one would like to be treated in this manner and taken advantage of just for being a tourist.

I would appreciate any feedback on this issue and hope this does not happen to any other tourist who visit the baths.

    Regards

      Dear Connor,
thank you for sharing your experience at the baths with us. We are terribly sorry that your bath visit was ruined, and will address your complaint asap. For a more detailed reply we have sent you an email.

We would strongly advise to use the customer complaint book that is compulsory in each restaurant / cafeteria / buffet / cafe etc. selling foods and drinks in Hungary. This book registers all complaints about the foods / drinks or the service, and makes the cafeteria legally responsible for any services that might be below standard.
Without going on record, there is no proof that could be officially addressed.
Therefore we suggest taking the following steps:
1, if you do not like the look of the food you purchase, please let the caterer serving you the food know instantly
2, if you do not like the taste of the food as it feels off, please let the caterer know and ask about the policy of refund at the place and we’d suggest taking a photo of the food that you complain about
3, if you are not satisfied with the manner of the service team, or with the refund policy, please do ask for the Book of Complaints (Panaszkonyv in Hungarian spelt as ‘Panaszkönyv’) as this book not only registers your complaint as a fact, which can be proven, but will get to the management (who may not be aware that a particular – temporary or permanent – employee may undermine the reputation of the cafeteria / the baths. The Book of Complaints ensures that official efforts will be taken to improve the services (otherwise the employees in question may just be silent about the complaint, as it is simply not in their interest to share it with the management)
4, you can demand to speak to a senior worker or the management of the cafeteria, who hopefully take your complaint more seriously, as it is their job to make sure all customers are satisfied. If not, please also record this in the Book of Complaints. To make your complaint stronger, please ask the names of the workers involved (first name tags are often on the uniforms). The exact date and hour of the incident also plays a crucial role in identifying the persons involved for a given shift.
5, please directly contact the following email address, szechenyi@spabudapest.hu to let the Bath (Szechenyi Furdo) know about the nature of your complaint.

Complaints and good customer service are taken very seriously at the baths. Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. All feedback is much appreciated to improve the services of Szechenyi Baths.

thank you for letting us know. The confirmation email of your thermal bath products (which is basically the same as your ticket) was already automatically sent to you, to the email address you have provided in the booking form: please make sure to check the spam folder in case it ended up there. At any rate, we have manually resent it again. Please let us know if there should be any further inconvenience, or if you wish to get the ticket sent to a different email address too.

Have a great time in Budapest, and enjoy the hot spring spas!
