Szechenyi Baths & Pool: Fun Place, Fine Palace

Szechenyi Baths (built in 1913) is the most visited and much praised attraction in Budapest: relaxing, fun, affordable and, at night, romantic. In addition to the marvellous medicinal natural hot spring waters in the 18 pools, there are 10 saunas / steam cabins, several massage therapies, facial treatments, and more.

Szechenyi Spa Baths is in the biggest green park of Budapest, in the City Park, close to a bunch of Budapest attractions. The  Neo-baroque palace was specifically built for hosting Szechenyi Baths as Hungary has been the country of baths (and Budapest the City of Baths) for many centuries: starting with the Roman settlers who built the first spa baths, through the 16th century Turkish occupiers who built many of the famous and revived Turkish baths in Budapest to the 19-20th century natural medical trends that promote aqua therapies and their deeply beneficial effects. The beautiful building of the spa baths is the design of Gyozo Czigler (Győző Czigler) who started to build Szechenyi Furdo in May 1909.

Come and enjoy your time in Budapest in Szechenyi Spa Baths, in a beautiful, richly decorated palace. The perfect place to chill out, to get to know locals, make business deals and fall in love.

  1. Wanting to visit the baths but 6 months pregnant will I be able to use any of the baths or are they all too hot??

    • Szechenyi Spa Baths

      Hello Kate,
pregnant women are kindly asked to consult with their doctor /OBGYN if they can bathe in the thermal waters in Budapest.

In Szechenyi Spa & Baths, there are several pools out of the 15 pools that are filled with spring water of a lower temperature, cold / cool and less hot (i.e. where the natural hot spring waters are cooled down to a cooler temperature):

Here are some of the pools where visitors can dip in cooler waters:
      Swimming pool in the open air (50 m length, depth 1.5m) 26 °C – 28 °C
3 very cold dipping /plunge pools (depth 1.1m), indoor pools of a smaller size – Normally used as alternating between thermal hot then cold balneotherapy treatments: 18 °C
      1 cool down pool (depth 1m) 20 °C
The learning pool and the so called preparatory pool (preparing for a warmer pool) are 30 °C.
One of the outdoor thermal pools, a popular choice for bathers, is of lower than the average temperature of humans, ranging from 30 °C to 34 °C
The actual temperature of the pools is indicated on a black board by the pool to inform visitors about the warmth/ cold of each pool.

Please read our bath FAQ regarding pregnancy and please discuss a potential visit with your doctor as we cannot give medical advice:
Hope this information is helpful in deciding about your visit in Szechenyi Thermal Baths.
